Super Simple Hacks

Image
I made the easiest little games for Kat!  For one of the games, I took little envelopes and taped them onto a piece of paper and then I put little things in the envelopes.  Kat really liked pulling things out of the colorful envelops and putting them back in.  I think this would be a good little game to bring to church because it kept her sitting and quiet for awhile and she enjoyed it. Another activity I made for Kat was I cut out cardboard shapes and colored them different colors (I just used the back of a notebook for the cardboard).  Then I traced the shapes onto a piece of paper. I colored the shapes matching colors so Kat knew that the pink triangle went with the pink triangle and the green square went with the green square, etc. Kat enjoyed putting the cardboard shapes on top of their corresponding shape and color.  At first, Kat had a hard time with it but after playing with it for a little while, she understood the concept and liked it. After Kat was able to put the cardboard

Christmas Crafts

Here are two Christmas crafts that Kat and I made.  One is a terrifying snowman and the other is an advent calendar. We made this creepy snowman with cotton balls and a permanent marker.  If I was to make this again, I would definitely use googly eyes or tiny cut out pieces of paper instead of the permanent marker.  I would also find some small twigs to use as the arms.  When we were making this snowman, we also made snowflakes to go along with it.  We used Q-tips to make the snowflakes and I don't have any pictures of those but they turned out really cute. This is the advent calendar.  We just took two pieces of paper, one with a picture of baby Jesus and one that was cut out into 25 pieces and taped them together.  We try to take one puzzle piece off everyday, but Kat likes to take off the puzzle pieces so sometimes she takes off a bunch at a time, but that's alright.

Painting The True Meaning of Christmas

Image
Kat and I painted on a wooden temple and a wooden snowman.  Kat used pretty much every color of paint that we had.  She kept asking for more and more paint so I was expecting her temple to be an ugly brown color, however, it actually turned out pretty nice and green.      While Kat painted her temple all the colors of the rainbow (I guess the green was the strongest), I painted a snowman.  I think the snowman turned out pretty cute and pretty fitting for Christmas time.  However, after thinking about Christmas, I think the temple has more to do with Christmas than a snowman ever will.  I kept the snowman how it is but I added baby Jesus to the back of him and I think that will be the side that I will put on display.  I'm not the best painter in the world but I like how baby Jesus turned out.

Christmas Tree

I cannot believe that it's Christmas time already!  I absolutely love Christmas!  Christmas is just a magical time of year and I love it.  We aren't planning on spending Christmas day at our house so we weren't going to buy a tree, but, my sister gave us a big present  for Christmas and told us to unwrap it immediately, and it was a Christmas tree!  We were so excited!  I hadn't realized how much I wanted a Christmas tree in my house until we were given one. As soon as we opened the present we wanted to put the Christmas tree up.  We struggled to put it up though because we didn't have a base and didn't want to wait to get a base to put up the tree, so we went outside and found a bunch of rocks.  We  had one of those big popcorn tins from last Christmas and put the tree in the middle of it and put a bunch of rocks around the tree in the tin.  The tin kept wanting to fall over though so we put rocks all around the tin to keep it in place.  It worked pretty well a

Riding in a Bike Trailer

Image
I did something that I don't know if I have ever done before and if I have done it, I was probably a baby or a toddler.  I sat in a bike trailer!  It was so funny!  I hurt my foot while running so I couldn't run beside my husband while he biked so instead I sat behind him in the bike trailer.  We definitely got some weird looks by cars passing us and by people on the streets, but it was worth it.  We got to go to a duck pond as a family and feed the ducks so it was fun and worth the stares.  I thought about putting the cover on the bike trailer and pretending I was just a toddler in the back, but that would have been pretty squishy so I just owned it and smiled and waved at all the random strangers.  This was my view while in the bike trailer Here I am laughing

Learning Game

Image
A few months ago, my neighbor gave me a bag full of random letters and random shapes (like the E, R, G, apple, and octopus in this picture).  This bag of random things just sat in Kat's room for months.  I had no idea what I would do with them but I figured I would eventually use them so I kept them.       Well, eventually, I did use them.  I got the bag out and we started to just play with the different shapes and letters.  I would ask Kat, "what letter is this?" while holding up a letter or I would say, "What color is this?" while holding up a blue object.  It was fun for a while but Kat isn't even two yet so all she really wanted to do was run around. So I we put all the shapes out and some of the letters out and we spread them all around our floor.  I would then say, "Run to the letter R" and we would race to it.  Then I would say, "Run to the apple" and we would race each other there.  I would also say things like, "Run to

Playdough Volcano

Image
Kat and I just made the easiest playdough we've ever made!  We have made the playdough that uses mostly flour and we have made the playdough that uses mostly salt and I think we have made a couple others but I don't remember what they used.  Anyways, this one only uses conditioner and baking soda.  I love activities that I can do with Kat without having to go buy something from the store.  We just mixed about a tablespoon of conditioner and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.  However, my daughter was helping scoop, poor, and mix so the amount that actually made it into the bowl and stayed in the bowl is probably different than that.  Basically, you can just mix the 2 together slowly until you get what you want.  We ended up with a "moon sand" like feel and we made snowmen and just played with it.  When we were done playing with the playdough, we put vinegar in the bowl and created little explosions.  Kat loved that the most!  We also were able to do a bunch of explosions
